From the fjord to Zakariasdammen – a private e-bike ride through one of Tafjord's most impressive landscapes.

We start by the fjord in the small village of Tafjord, get comfortable on the bikes and head up the valley.

The road soon begins to climb, but that's where the e-bikes come into their own. As we leave the village behind, we follow the river further into the valley, past waterfalls, steep mountainsides and mountain lakes. There is time to stop along the way, but this is first and foremost a bike ride – and getting there is a big part of the experience.

Our goal is Zakariasdammen, high above the village.

The ride up is a steady climb, and the landscape changes as we gain height. With the electric assistance, you can enjoy the cycling without the climb taking everything out of your legs. You still pedal, you still feel the distance – you just have a little help along the way.

At the Zakarias Dam, we take a proper break. The 96-metre-high dam holds back enough water to produce electicity for 25 000 houses, and is an impressive place to arrive by bike. Here we enjoy some local flavors and take some time to look around before getting back on our bikes.

And then comes the ride down.

The return to Tafjord gives you a very different experience of the same landscape – this time with considerably less pedaling and more breaking.

There is also a story behind much of what we see.

For generations, water has shaped both nature and life in Tafjord. During the last century, people also learned to harness it. Hydropower brought jobs, infrastructure and change to this small village, and your guide will share some of that history as we follow the waterways towards the mountains.

It adds another layer to the ride, but we keep things simple. You don't need an interest in engineering or hydropower to enjoy this tour. Sometimes it is simply interesting to know why the landscape around you looks the way it does. Once we are back in the village we make a stop and have a visit inside the first hydro power plant in Tafjord - built in 1917.

The experience includes
• Private guided e-bike tour
• Quality e-bike and helmet
