The trip startes at Grotli and ends by the UNESCO world heritage fjord, Tafjorden. Take a look at our day-to-day program to get more detailed information.

Nyttig info

This trek is for those who seek a real wilderness adventure in the Norwegian mountains! The trek is in total 40 km, and will be split over 4 days of hiking. During the hike participant must be able to carry their own luggage, and be able to handle 5-6 hours of walking each day. We highly recommend to follow the equipment list to reduce the weight of the luggage as much as possible. You do not need to carry food, only snacks. The most demanding hike is on day 4 due to its length and terrain. Age limit is 13 when accompanied with a guardian.

The trek finds place at the border of Reinheimen National Park, and we have permission from the board of Reinheimen to arrange to tour. We need to take caution for the wild reindeer.

The guide will always put the group's safety as a priority. This means that weather, wind, and other conditions will always provide guidance as to whether the planned route can be completed or not. Should the weather be too bad, we as the organizer will cancel, and you will be offered to move the trip or a full refund. Remember to read through our booking conditions and safety rules as this is automatically part of the agreement when you book a trip.

DAG-FOR-DAG Program

Meet the guide at Billingen Mountain Lodge at 17:45 for check-in. After check-in we will enjoy a locally sourced dinner and go through the route in detail. The mountain lodge is located right at the edge of the river, so a small hike in the area would be recommended before dinner at 19:00. Its always good to stretch the legs after a long day of traveling.

Included: Lodging and dinner

Distance 12 km | 470 meters elevation

After breakfast we will head towards the trailhead. We are already at a quite high elevation, so todays leg is a soft beginning. Its not until the last kilometer before the cabin we will elevate a bit. Todays goal is Danskehytta, which is located on top of a hilltop with a stunning view towards the mountain named the "Trolls Church" and its glacier. The outhouse at Danskehytta was once known for being the mountain toilet with the most beautiful view! Danskehytta is a self-serviced DNT cabin where we will make dinner together.

Included: Lodging, breakfast, lunch, dinner

Distance 11 km | 930 downhill

Todays leg is filled with contrasts and is mainly downhill. From the naked high elevated areas, we will walk along the a ridge of Rødalsegga towards the lush valley of Reindalsseter. For those who want we can take a detour to the summit of Rødalsegga or Svartegga to get an greater view of the Tafjord Mountain Range and the fjord. The ascent to Reindalen is a bit steep, but we have plenty of time to travel at our own pace. Reindalsseter is a staffed DNT cabin, and a three course dinner and shower awaits us when we arrive. The cabin is located right by a lake where its popular to fish for mountain trout and paddle canoes.

Included: Lodging, breakfast, lunch, dinner

Distance 11 km | 570 meter elevation | 770 downhill

Perhaps the most beautiful leg in the Tafjord Mountain Range. From the lush valley of pine threes we will hike uphill towards Mt. Breinausa. The mountain pass gives an panoramic view of Tafjorden, the surrounding mountains and Trollkyrkja glacier. The Trollkyrkja glacier can be spotted from the outhouse at Danskehytta at day 2, and it´s surreal that we now are right by it. Once we reach the highest elevated point of the route we can walk off the pass to a viewpoint which takes us 100 meter straight above the fjord. This will add 3 km to todays distance. From the view point we will hike downward towards a private lodge located at Tafjordsætra. The cabins at Tafjordsætra is over 400 years old, but have been well kept as cozy and comfortable cabins. The cabins have solar power, fireplace, gas stove and cold water. If the weather allows it, the guide will make a locally-sourced dinner over the bonfire outside.

Included: Lodging, breakfast, lunch, dinner

Distance: 7 km | 530 meters downhill | 200 meters elevation

Today we will check off some buckets list views in the area, Mulldalsfossen. An almost 200 meters high free-falling waterfall, which is the highest in the region. Today we travel from the mountains to the fjords along the river that ends with the waterfall into the fjord. Today we end the day at Olagarden Guesthouse. Olagarden is the most historical and cozy guesthouse in Tafjord, and takes us 100 years back in time whilst modern comfort is maintained. The hike today is shorter than others, so we will get lunch served in Olagarden. After lunch you can either relax on your own, or join a private tour at the Hydro power and avalanche centre in Tafjord which will give you a deep insight into the local history. The guided tour ends after a three course dinner in Olagarden.

Included: Lodging, breakfast, lunch, dinner

Today you are free to do whatever you feel like. The trip ends in Tafjord. We can arrange transport for those who need it. Read more about transportation under "additional information" above.

If you wish to stay an extra night in Tafjord to perhaps kayak, canoe or fish at Tafjorden we can arrange that for you. Take a look at our daily activities for more information and experiences.
