If you want to experience the majestic Sunnmøre Alps, the spectacular Geirangerfjord, the dramatic Romsdalen and other hidden gems on Sunnmøre with an acquaintance, this trip is for you! This is an all-inclusive package, accommodation and transport are included in the price from start to finish.
On the first day, we meet in the fishing capital Ålesund for a fresh-fish local dinner! Ålesund is known for its unique art nouveau architecture and large fishing and maritime industry. The contrast is significant in this region. Ålesund has an open landscape with several charming islands and sandy beaches close by, while as we move inland, the narrow fjords and alpine peaks plunge and rise around us. From Ålesund, we travel both through the changing landscape and history. On our way to Åndalsnes we travel through Øye, Nordangsdalen, Geirangerfjorden, Tafjorden, Valldal and the Trolls Road. We will hike, kayak and meet the locals while staying at luxury accommodations. One night we will spend at a traditional mountain cabin at the foot of Mt. Slogen. This is to increase the chance of reaching the "The Queen of Sunnmøre" summit. Read our day-to-day program for a more detailed itinerary.
This tour is suitable for those who want to explore the highlight of the region in few days. The tour includes hiking up to 8 hours and fjord kayaking up to 7 hours, which will be doable with general physical shape. The tour is always for private groups, and can therefor be adjusted to fit your group fitness level. We will stay at both hotels, guesthouses and mountain cabins.
The participant will be emailed a detailed packing list from the guide closer to departure. You will need to bring both active outdoor clothes, and casual nice clothes.
The guide will always put the group's safety as a priority. This means that weather, wind, and other conditions will always provide guidance as to whether the planned route can be completed or not. Should the weather be too bad, we as the organizer will cancel, and you will be offered to move the trip or a full refund. Remember to read through our booking conditions and safety rules as this is automatically part of the agreement when you book a trip.
Meet-up in Ålesund and dinner with locally sourced food
The guide meets the group at the reception of Hotel Brosundet in Ålesund at 18:00. Here there will be a short information meeting followed by a short walk to one of our favorite restaurants in Ålesund where a traditional three-course dinner awaits. This dinner is definitely something to look forward to!
Ålesund is known as Norway's fishing capital, and the buildings are renowned for their unique Art Nouveau style. For those who want to get better acquainted with Ålesund as a city, we would recommend arriving earlier to Ålesund to take a hike up to Fjellstua, or a walk to Sukkertoppen to get a beautiful view of the city and the surrounding islands.

Hike to the Patchellhut (Refugio) in the Sunnmøre Alps
After breakfast, we will be transported from Hotell Brosundet to the wild Sunnmøre alps, circa 1.5 h drive. Today's destination is the self-service refugio: Patchells-cabin. This cabin was originally a cabin that British climbers used as a base camp during their large climbing expeditions in the region over 100 years ago. The location is fantastic with the queen of the Sunnmøre Alps, Slogen, right outside the door. To Patchellhytta we will take the usual trail, but via a lesser-known and more beautiful trail with a detour up to a peak, we will keep as a secret for now... If we are lucky, we can also experience the northern lights this evening! September is one of the most active northern light months, and when we get away from city lights, the chances to see them increase!

Today, the famous Mt. Slogen, the queen of the Sunnmørsalpane, is on our list!
Right from the door we start on the 3 km long climb up to the top of Slogen. The trail gradually becomes more and more demanding, and we, therefore, take plenty of time uphill both to increase the chance of reaching the top, but also to take the time to enjoy one of Sunnmøre's most beautiful views. From Slogen we follow the famous "Slogråsa" straight down to the fjord. Should the weather not play in our favor, we have an alternative route down to the fjord which is easier.

Today we have a resting-legs-day, but we still have some bucket list adventures. From Hotell Øye we travel through Norangsdalen to Hellesylt. From here we will take the ferry through Geirangerfjorden to Geiranger. In Geiranger we will eat lunch and tour around, before we head up to Ørnesvingen viewpoint and to tonights accomondation: Kilsti Compact Lodge.
The luxuary green micro hotell Kilsti Compact Lodge is an experience on its own with its comfortable, nature close atmosphere. You will also have access to a glass sauna overlooking the fjord.

Today we will explore the Geirangerfjorden world heritage on Tafjorden with a kayak. From the romantic village of Norddal we will kayak through the untouristified and unknown fjord, Tafjorden to Tafjord. The fjord is surrounded with 1000-meter on both sides, and massiv waterfalls, and we believe that you have not fulfilled your impression of the mighty nature on Sunnmøre until you have explored both the mountains and the fjords. The fjord is a marine reserve so experiencing porpoise, eagles, salmon, and other wildlife is not uncommon.
In Tafjord, one of Sunnmøre's most charming guesthouses awaits, where we get the whole building to ourselves. A stay at Olagarden is like going 100 years back in time, and we always look forward to our personal visits here.

The last day of our six-day adventure and another iconic destination: Trollstigen. After breakfast we will head towards Åndalsnes where the trip ends. On the way we will make a small hike at Trollstigen to get the best view of this iconic place. The trip ends at Åndalsnes, and we recommend everyone to take one of Europe's most beautiful train trips, Rauma Railroad, back to Oslo/Trondheim.
If you wish to stay an extra night in Åndalsnes, we would recommend Hotel Aak.
