HIGHLIGHTS
Glaciers in Sunnmøre often lie at high elevations and require a lot of effort to reach. However, we know a glacier in the heart of the Sunnmøre Alps which is only a fair 6km and 500 meters elevation from the parking lot. The hike to the glacier is in itself worth the tour!
We meet in the town of Urke by Norangsfjorden at 08:30 am, and drive a gravel road up to Langesæterdalen trailhead. From here we proceed on foot on the trail past Langesætra and to Gullmors Glacier. The glacier is located on the north side of the famous mountain Store Brekketind. At the edge of the glacier, we put on crampons and tie into the guide's rope, and go out on the glacier. On the glacier, we will walk a round trip, walking along glacier crevasses and exploring them if the conditions let us. We will depart the glacier at the base of Mt. Brunstadhornet and return back down to our cars. On the glacier, we explore glacier cracks/crevasses and learn about glaciers and their importance to us humans, and if we´re lucky, we can hear the sounds of the glacier slowly moving and eroding the bedrock beneath.
This trek is quite demanding and one should be in good physical shape and experienced hikers.
