HIGHLIGHTS

  • The glacier experience!
  • Glacier movement and knowledge
  • Exploration of glacier crevasses

Glaciers in Sunnmøre often lie at high elevations and require a lot of effort to reach. However, this is the most accessible one in the region. The hike to the glacier is in beautiful surroundings and is 7km and 800m of vertical gain. The hike is in itself worth the trip!

We meet in the town of Urke by Norangsfjorden at 08:00 am, and drive a gravel road up to Langesæterdalen trailhead. From here we proceed on foot on the trail past Langesætra and to Gullmors Glacier. The glacier is located on the north side of the famous mountain Store Brekketind. At the edge of the glacier, we put on crampons and tie into the guide's rope, and go out on the glacier. On the glacier, we will walk a round trip, walking along glacier crevasses and exploring them if the conditions let us. We will depart the glacier at the base of Mt. Brunstadhornet and return back down to our cars. On the glacier, we explore glacier cracks/crevasses and learn about glaciers and their importance to us humans, and if we´re lucky, we can hear the sounds of the glacier slowly moving and eroding the bedrock beneath.

This trek is demanding and one should be in good physical shape and experienced hikers.

Expectation to participate;

Participants should be in good physical shape and able to do 400meters of elevation per hour in rocky terrain. This is not a beginner hike and requires good physical condition and experience with rugged terrain.

It is about 2.5 hours to the glacier, and we spend about 1-1.5 hour on the glacier. Another 2.5 hours back down to the car. 8hours round trip.

Private groups: 1-4 people 6500.- / 5-6 people 8500.-
